About the XML Sitemap Validator

An XML sitemap lists the pages you want search engines to find. A good sitemap holds only live, canonical, indexable URLs with honest lastmod dates; a bad one is full of redirects, 404s and URLs from the wrong host — and Google starts trusting it less.

Enter a domain (Nuqti finds the sitemap from robots.txt) or a sitemap URL. Nuqti parses it — including sitemap indexes and gzip — validates the format and limits, charts lastmod freshness and checks the status of a sample of URLs.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter a URLAny public page, e.g. https://example.com/page.
  2. 2Watch the check run liveEach step appears the moment it finishes — no waiting on a blank screen.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my sitemap?

Usually /sitemap.xml or /sitemap_index.xml, and it should be listed in robots.txt with a 'Sitemap:' line.

What are the sitemap limits?

50,000 URLs and 50 MB (uncompressed) per file. Bigger sites use a sitemap index that lists several sitemaps.

Should redirected or 404 URLs be in my sitemap?

No. Only include the final, 200-status, canonical version of each page.

Does lastmod matter?

Google uses lastmod when it's consistently accurate. Don't set every page to today's date.
