About the Canonical Tag Checker

rel=canonical tells search engines which URL is the main version of a page when the same content is reachable at several addresses (with parameters, http/https, www, sorting). It consolidates ranking signals onto one URL.

Nuqti reads the canonical tag and HTTP Link header, checks they agree, then requests the canonical URL itself — it must return 200, not redirect, not be noindex and not point somewhere else again.

Frequently asked questions

Should every page have a canonical tag?

Yes — a self-referencing canonical on every indexable page is best practice and protects against parameter duplicates.

Is canonical a directive?

It's a strong hint. Google may choose another canonical if signals conflict (sitemaps, internal links, redirects).

Can I canonical to another domain?

Yes, for syndicated content. The other page must have the same content.

Canonical + noindex together?

Avoid it: it sends mixed signals. Use one or the other.
